Darcy Rae is the artist identity created to bring the original songs and lyrics of Australian songwriter Andre Smith to life.
Many of Andre’s songs were written during the 1990s, reflecting both the life he was living at the time and the songwriting traditions of country music from that period. They carry the storytelling style, lyrical phrasing and musical sensibility of that era—songs about family, work, relationships, hardship, humor and the everyday experiences of ordinary people.
That history is an important part of what makes these songs unique.
These are not new songs written today to imitate the country music of the 1990s. The songs actually come from that time. Some of the lyrics remained with Andre for nearly three decades before finally becoming finished recordings.
